Table soccer – also known as foosball – is popular in many parts of the world and its tables can be found in various places, such as bars, youth centers, schools and private homes. Foosball is not just a fun game, in some countries foosball is recognized as a professional sport with national leagues and national/international tournaments. Table soccer is not (yet) considered as an Olympic sport, but has already gained the observer status. To fulfill the requirements to become an Olympic sport, table soccer needs to be recognized as a professional sport in more countries, with many players and supporters around the world.
To help building a solid player base in New Zealand, Marcus Schulz, the Vice President of the German Table Soccer Federation (DTFB), and Christian Fiedler, the managing Director of the foosball table manufacturer Leonhart, had the crazy idea to ship several professional foosball tables from Germany to New Zealand.
We are happy to announce that four of these sponsored tables are now setup at the Unipol in Dunedin. Everybody is welcome to use them free of charge, and we provide free coaching every Tuesday and Friday evening.
The arrival of the first professional foosball tables in New Zealand is the foundation for a New Zealand wide Table Soccer community.
